Jesus, The Good Shepherd (Psalm 23)

The Bible intentionally refers to us as Sheep. When God calls us sheep, it is by no means a compliment. Sheep need a lot of help (this is a whole study on its own!) and they absolutely cannot survive without the shepherd and what he does for them.

With Jesus as MY Shepherd, I lack nothing. What does He do for me? He:

-guides me

-leads me

-protects me

-gives me shelter

-makes me feel safe

-provides for me

-gives me rest

-gives me food for my body and Spirit

-refreshes me

In Him, I have security.  In Him, I am content. In Him, I have hope. With Him leading me, I have no need to fear. I have joy and life abundant. I can be confident in my Lord. I can trust in His love and His grace.

A good shepherd protects his sheep at the cost of his own life, if need be. And Jesus, being The Good Shepherd, laid His life down for His sheep, for us, for me.

When I go astray, my Shepherd leaves the 99 to go look for me and He doesn’t stop until He has found me. Oh Lord, how amazing is Your love and Your commitment to me.

Psalm 37:23-25
If the LORD delights in a man’s way, he makes his steps firm; though he stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand. I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.
